The ninth day of the World Cup was an interesting one. Brazil came back for their second match of this tournament after a draw against Switzerland. Nigeria needed a result after a loss in the first match against Croatia. Serbia and Switzerland played a politically charged match. This is the place for all your information about the World Cup day 9 results.
World Cup day 9 results
This day started with one of the favourites to win the tournament. Brazil faced Costa Rica in Saint-Petersburg. This match was followed by Nigeria versus Iceland and the last match was Serbia versus Switzerland.
Brazil versus Costa Rica
This was an important match for Brazil. After a draw against Switzerland, they needed to win this match. After a rough start they really started playing in the second half. The substitution Douglas Costa for Willian had a positive effect on his team. Despite a dominant second half performance they needed extra time to score a goal. Once again it was Coutinho who scored the first goal for Brazil, this time in the 91st minute of this match. In the 96th minute Neymar even doubled the score.
Nigeria versus Iceland
I couldn’t call this match at the start. Iceland had a good performance against Argentina, but now they needed to play along with Nigeria. The first half was quite boring, but in the second half it was the Ahmed Musa show. He led his team to a 2-0 victory with two great goals. This gives both Nigeria as Argentina the chance to reach the knock-out stages of this tournament.
Serbia versus Switzerland
The last match of the day appeared to be the best one. Serbia took an early lead thanks to a great header by Mitrovic. Early in the second half it was Granit Xhaka who scored the equaliser for Switzerland. After this goal it could have gone either way, but it was Switzerland who won this match in the dying minutes. Xherdan Shaqiri scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of this match.
