World Cup day 19 is the day the two last round of 16 matches were played. This means we’re already heading towards the quarter finals. Everything is going so fast lately. I still remember the moment that Russia and Saudi Arabia started this tournament, but enough about that. Today is the first of two days rest, before we start with the quarter finals.
World Cup day 19 in Russia
Only four teams were remaining in the round of 16, the first two that played for a spot in the quarter final were Sweden and Switzerland. The second match of the day was the one between England and Colombia.
Sweden versus Switzerland
This wasn’t a match many people were looking forward too. Both teams seemed to have an equal squad and the expectations were low for this match. People appeared to be right about this match. There were some chances for both teams, but a deflected shot decided this match in Sweden’s favour. They won with 1-0 and qualified for the quarter final.
England versus Colombia
The expectations for this match were a lot higher. Both teams are considered to be strong teams and should have the quality to make it a good match. One of the most interesting battles was the one between Spurs teammates Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez. Not much happened in the first half, but it was still quite entertaining. England got a penalty early in the second half, which was of course netted by Harry Kane. England was heading towards a 1-0 victory, when Yerri Mina scored the equaliser in the 93rd minute of the match. After a nervy half hour extra time, penalties were going to decide this match. England took them just a little bit better, which brings them into the quarter final against Sweden.
