World Cup day 16
France versus Argentina
Argentina just reached the round of 16 in the dying minutes of their last game and faced France in this round. The French team didn’t play too well in their group, but they got the results they needed. They were the better team at the start of this match. An impressive Mbappe run, was stopped by Rojo in Argentina’s penalty box. The referee gave France a penalty, which was netted by Antoine Griezmann. At the end of the first half Angel di Maria scored out of the blue. The second half of this match was just crazy. Argentina took the lead in the 48th minute, but then it was France again. Pavard and Mbappe (twice) brought the victory for France. Especially Kylian Mbappe was out of this world in this match. The French teenager was by far the man of the match.
Uruguay versus Portugal
After Messi’s exit, it was up to Cristiano Ronaldo to do better. However, it was Edison Cavani who opened the score in this match. Uruguay is defensively so strong, that Portugal knew it was going to be a tough match. Portugal needed a corner to draw level with Uruguay. Pepe scored with a header from a corner in the 55th minute. Uruguay needed only 7 minutes after this goal, to take back their lead. Once again it was Edison Cavani who scored for Uruguay. Portugal tried to equalise again, but Uruguay was just too strong. They really played like a machine. Every single player know exactly what he needs to do and what his teammate is going to do.
