World Cup day 11 was the very last day of the second round in the group stages. Now things are really heading towards the end of the group stage. I think everybody is waiting for the knockout stages, so I’m starting to get really excited.
World Cup day 11 results
The 11th day of the World Cup started with England playing against Panama. The next match was Japan against Senegal and the very last match in the second round of the group stage was Poland agianst Colombia.
England versus Panama
The Three Lions won their first match, Belgium won the first two, so a victory for England would bring both top favourites to the next round. England started this game with a lot of passion which led to an early goal by John Stones. This was the start of a goal festival which ended in a 5-0 score at half-time. Both teams managed to score one in the second half. Harry Kane made a hat-trick and Panama scored their first ever goal on a World Cup tournament.
Japan versus Senegal
Both teams won their first match, so the winner from this match will probably qualify for the next round. It was an interesting match, where Senegal took the lead twice, but Japan managed to equalise the same amount of times. After 90 minutes it was 2-2 and both teams are on four points now. A draw in the next round is for both teams enough to reach the next round.
Poland versus Colombia
I’m not going to lie to you. I tipped both of these teams for a place in the knockout stages. Unfortunately both teams lost their first match, so the pressure in one both teams in this match. Colombia was by far the better team in the match. Yerri Mina opened the score at the end of the first half. Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado both scored a goal in the second half. The 3-0 victory gives Colombia hope for the next round, while Poland is eliminated due to this defeat.
