Unai Emery confirms PSG exit in the summer

This is the kind of day you expect in the transfer window, but not on a regular Friday at the end of April. We weren’t even done writing the news article about Iniesta leaving Barcelona and there came the next push notification. Unai Emery confirms he will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this season. I must say, just like the news about Iniesta, this one isn’t a big surprise for anyone who follows the football world.

Unai Emery last season

After the record fee for Neymar, PSG wants to play for the Champions trophy. Unlucky for the French giants was the draw for the round of 32. The draw placed them against Real Madrid and they lost with 5-2 on aggregate. Everybody knew immediately this was the end of Emery’s spell in Paris. PSG wants to win the Champions League and if you don’t get through the round of 32 you’re time is up. Even though they won the Ligue 1 with distance and already won one of 2 domestic cups, this isn’t enough for the guys who spent a lot of money to bring PSG to the top of Europe. I don’t have any doubts he will find a new team in no-time, because of his excellent track record.

Who’s next for PSG?

Weeks ago we already heard the rumours about former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel. The story is he already reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. Arsene Wenger forced leave at Arsenal appeared to put the Tuchel deal on hold. Some people claim PSG would love to get Wenger to Paris, but personally I think it’s going to be Tuchel. Arsene Wenger ins’t the manager he used to be. The bookies agree with me, Thomas Tuchel is currently on 2/5 for being the next manager. Arsene Wenger is with 5/1 second favourites miles behind Tuchel.

One thing is for sure, it’s going to be an interesting summer with vacancies at two of big clubs in Europe!
