The 2018-2019 FPL season, is my third full Fantasy Premier League season. I’m in a mini-league with my colleagues from my office in Amsterdam and our head office in Madrid. I had to make some strange decisions this week in an attempt to close a 40 point gap with the mini league leader. This eventually cost me my second place in the mini-league, but I don’t really care about that. All or nothing was the slogan this week. The season has come to an end now and I finished 297,629th spot with 2,193. Which is 300,000 place and almost 2,000 points better than my previous record. During this season I’ve learned some things, which I would like to share with you.
My learnings from 2018-2019 FPL season
Die-hard FPL players already know them, but I would like to share them for the newbies.
- Take notice of the fixtures at the start of the season
From the moment FPL opens their new season, I immediately started creating my team. I follow football and the Premier League for years now, so it’s always a joy to start building a team. In all my enthusiasm I was convinced I created a very very strong first pick for my team to start the season with. But then there was the start of the season. I had Aubameyang in my team, he started with matches against Manchester City and Chelsea. - Reddit and Ben Crellin are good sources of information
In the summer I became a redditor. So I decided to take a look at the FPL Subreddit. This was an important step in my FPL life. The redditors gave me some very valuable tips and also introduced Ben Crellin to me. Ben is the master of the FPL sheets and his sheets helped me to schedule my chips. I’m convinced I would have much less points without the help of Reddit and Ben Crellin. - Always make your own decisions
Reddit is a great source of information, but it’s also a trap. I based my decisions at the start of the season too much on the opinion of redditors, instead of my own judgement. I wanted to take a hit to swap Aubameyang for Aguero after gameweek 1. Many redditors told me not take a hit that early in the season. Aubameyang blanked, Aguero scored 20 points. With a C, he would have given me 36 points extra. This mistake in the second gameweek eventually cost me the title in my mini-league. So my most important lesson is to always make your own decisions. Then you only got yourself to blame!
