The Premier League season is heading towards the end so people slowly but surely start to think about creating lists. The most important list at the end of the season is of course the Premier League table. Especially for everyone involved around Manchester City and Liverpool, it’s going to be a very exciting end of the season. At the same time it’s going to be an interesting time for the several individual players. Of course they are going to say that it’s all about the team, but I can’t imagine there isn’t a player who doesn’t likes to win individual prices. The Premier League player of the year award is of course the most important individual trophy at the end of this season. I would like to nominate Raheem Sterling as the most important candidate for this trophy.
Raheem Sterling’s career
I was quite shocked when I looked into his personal information as preparation for this article. It feels like Raheem Sterling is around us for ages, but he’s still only 24 years old. It’s amazing to see what this guy already achieved since he’s a professional football player. The English player with Jamaican roots started his professional career at the age of 17 for Liverpool. He also made his debut for the English national team at the same age. Since then he played over 300 professional matches in which he scored over 80 goals. In the summer of 2015 he moved to Manchester City in order to win trophies. In the meantime Sterling has won one Premier League title and two League Cups. There’s a big chance that he will add some trophies to this tally before the end of this season.
Raheem Sterling 2018-2019
Last season it was Mohamed Salah who convincingly won the Player of the Year award. He was the player who personally led Liverpool through the Premier League and Champions League. This year there isn’t one player who stands out the way Salah did last season. Raheem Sterling is one of the leaders of Manchester City this season. He score already 15 Premier League goals, only three less than Premier League top scorer Sergio Aguero. With his 9 assists, Sterling is involved in the most Premier League goals so far this season. Virgil van Dijk currently the big favourite to become POTY, but Raheem Sterling is second favourite according to popular betting sites.
