The complete Premier League top four failed this weekend. I don’t know the exact numbers, but I think we need to go a long way back to find a weekend where the entire top four failed. None of Manchester City, Man United, Liverpool or Tottenham managed to score a goal this weekend. Especially the managers in the Fantasy Premier League mourn the results of this weekend. It’s a double gameweek in the FPL and a lot of managers selected a Triple Captain. With captains playing for the top four teams, it’s a terrible weekend. In this post we discuss the results of the top 4.
Premier League top four failed
Manchester United
The number two of the table started this weekend with a Friday match away against Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton was looking for a result to secure their Premier League status. Man United played for nothing and that was clear. It was another poor performance by Jose Mourinho’s team. He can say whatever he wants, but I expect more from Manchester United and that’s his responsibility. Pascal Gross scored the 1-0 for Brighton which was the only goal of the match. It was a well-deserved victory for Brighton.
Tottenham Hotspur
The Spurs need some point to secure their top 4 finish. West Bromwich Albion is still fighting against relegation, while their were written off weeks ago. Since Darren Moore is at the helm, they keep collecting points. Tottenham tried to score an early goal, but they had trouble in the final third. West Brom stayed back and waited for their one chance and it came! In the 92nd minute of the game, Livermore scored the 1-0 for West Brom, which means their PL status is extended for another week.
Manchester City
The newly crowned Premier League champions had a home match against Huddersfield Town. This was the first time that Man City was really really bad this season. Although they dominated possession, they were never really dangerous in front of Lossl’s goal. This match stayed 0-0, which can be a vital point for Huddersfield in their battle for another Premier League season.
Liverpool
The last top four team that played was Liverpool. They had the most difficult task with Chelsea away. Liverpool’s focus is on the Champions League final, while Chelsea still hopes for a top four finish. A goal by Giroud was enough for Chelsea to win this match. It’s going to be a very interesting week in the Premier League, to see which teams will finish in the top 4.
