Mauricio Pochettino is at the end of his fourth season as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. I’m starting to think it’s better for all parties concerned that they make his fifth season his last. Since this current season I’m starting to think that he can’t bring them to another level. I do believe this was a difficult season for them, considering they had extra costs for playing at Wembley and building their new stadium. So I do think he should get the chance to bring the Spurs to the new stadium to see if he’s able to win trophies. If he doesn’t win anything again, last season should be his last at the club.
Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs
He signed a contract at White Hart Lane in 2014 when the club just finished 6th in the Premier League. Since his arrival he managed to lift the level of the club. After years of trying, Pochettino brought the Spurs to the top 4. He finished 5th in his first season, but is going to complete the top 4 hat-trick at the end of this season. Although they will finish in the top 4 for the third consecutive time, they only competed for the title in the 2015-2016 season.
Cup attitude
His attitude towards cup tournaments is the thing that annoys me the most. He only rates the Champions League and plays other cup tournaments normally with a weaker team. These weaker teams are big part of the reason that he hasn’t won anything yet. If he gives more value to these cup tournaments, they should be able to win some silverware.
Transfer Policy
This is a sensitive subject for Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham’s spendings in the previous summer brought them on the 6th place in the transfer spendings list. They spent about a fourth of Man City. I personally like what they do on the market. They buy young talented players and hope to create some top Premier League players. At the same time, they sell some of their best players. Like they did with Kyle Walker last season and what’s probably going to happen with Alderweireld in the summer. When they keep doing it this way, their squad is always weakened at the start of a new season. If they really want to win the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino needs lift the level of the squad.
