Mason Greenwood sees charges getting dropped

All charges against Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood have been dropped, The Sun reports Thursday afternoon. The 21-year-old attacker was arrested a year ago on suspicion of rape, assault, threats and emotional and psychological abuse of his ex-girlfriend Harriet Robson. The Greater Manchester Police confirm that the Public Prosecution Service has dropped all charges against Greenwood. United itself has not yet shared anything.

Chief Michaela Kerr confirms the news on behalf of the Greater Manchester Police. “The investigation team has been in constant contact with the legal team and has provided regular updates and thus understands the rationale for stopping the proceedings at this stage. We assure that this decision has not been taken lightly. Despite the media and public interest in this case, we have decided not to comment further.”

Since his first arrest early last year, Greenwood has been suspended from United and has not played a single minute of play. Greenwood has long been known as one of United’s brightest talents. He has already played 117 games for the Red Devils in which he scored 33 goals. Nike announced after his first arrest that it had broken the sponsorship contract with the attacker, while EA Sports also distanced itself from Greenwood by removing him from FIFA 22.

Future at Manchester United

It will be very interesting to see how Manchester United will deal with this situation. Manager Erik ten Hag has a track record of supporting his players as long as possible. In his time at Ajax Quincy Promes got involved in a stabbing incident. A few days after returning from prison, Erik ten Hag played him against Ado den Haag. Innocent until proven guilty was Ten Hag’s stand on that situation.

How will he deal with this situation? For the first time in a long while, everything around Manchester United feels positive. Would a return of Greenwood disturb the positive vibe around the club? Considering the fact he hasn’t been training for over a year. It looks very unlikely that we will see him back on the pitch this season. If Ten Hag wants him to comeback, it will probably from the start of next season. In the meantime fans of Man United are using their free bet offers to put on their club winning the Carabao Cup.
