Manchester City ban overturned by CAS

On 14 February, the independent Adjudicatory Chamber of Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) said City had broken the rules by “overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa between 2012 and 2016”. It added that City had “failed to cooperate in the investigation”. City were banned from European football for two years from next season and were fined 30m euros (£26.9m). This morning the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) overturned this ban and changed the fine into 10m euros. What does the cancellation of the Manchester City ban means for them?

Now the Manchester City ban is overturned, the club can look forward to next season. Current Man City players might have left the club when the ban wasn’t overturned. Potential targets probably don’t want to come to a club where they can’t played European football. Now the ban is overturned, it’s time for City to look at their squad for next season. Which players can leave the club and which players should join the squad? This decision by CAS will be a big relieve for the Cityzens. It’s going to be very interesting to see how long it takes before they announce their first transfer news.

Ending the season on a high

Now the ban is overturned, Man City can focus on ending this season on a high. Liverpool has won the league, but Man City can still win some major trophies. They will play Arsenal on the weekend in the semi-final of the FA Cup. in the beginning of August Man City plays the second match against Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. If they win this match they play the winner of Olympique Lyonnais versus Juventus in the quarter final. When they can play like they’re doing most recently, there’s a big chance for Man City to win some extra silverware this season.
