I was quite shocked that it was As Roma who controlled the match in the beginning. They had more possession and had the first few chances. They really showed the faith and believe in a good result in this away match. But than there was their former teammate Mohamed Salah. He scored the opener in the 36th minute with a beautiful curl in the top corner. A sneaky chip brought Liverpool versus As Roma at 2-0 just before half time.

As Roma looked to be devastated by this goal and never really recovered from it in the second half. Mo Salah had enough of scoring agains his old team and decided to start assisting goals. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino each got an assist by Salah and lifted the score to 4-0 just around the hour mark. Another goal by Firmino was the 5-0. This makes Liverpool the first team in history with 2 players who have scored 10+ goals in one Champions League season, what an unbelievable stat.

This fifth goal was maybe a little bit too much for the Reds. They lost some concentration and gave As Roma the chance to do something back. Goals by Edin Dzeko and Diego Perroti will give As Roma some believe for the second match of this tie. Liverpool versus As Roma finished in a 5-2 victory for the home team. Personally I don’t see Liverpool giving this away in the second match. As Roma needs to go all guns blazing, therefore they will give space to Liverpool. The Reds can execute the perfect counter attack with their pacy attackers, so they will score in Rome. Find all the match stats below.
