Liverpool outsmarts Man United for Gakpo

Cody Gakpo leaves permanently for Liverpool. PSV confirms that it has reached an agreement with The Reds. Liverpool has been working hard for the 23-year-old left winger in recent days. Manchester United were sidelined by Liverpool’s quick action. Odds were in favour of Man United for a long time. Many punters wasted some free bets on this bet, thanks to the determination of Liverpool. Fabrizio Romano reported an official offer of 37 million British pounds, the equivalent of 42 million euros. Bonuses are added on top of that. Gakpo immediately leaves for England to complete the last formalities.

Summer interest

Also last summer, Liverpool was mentioned here and there around Gakpo, but then an offer was not forthcoming. The 23-year-old left winger from PSV was able to go to Southampton and Leeds United on the final day of the transfer window, but John de Jong threw himself as technical director for a transfer. Gakpo then had a whirlwind six months at PSV and also became the top scorer of the Orange at the World Cup in Qatar with three goals. With this, the attacker seems to have proven himself at the absolute top.

Injuries

Liverpool is going through an extremely difficult season and is suffering from injuries, among other things. In any case, Jürgen Klopp will have to do without Luís Diaz and Diogo Jota in the coming weeks. Gakpo’s lightning transfer, a direct reinforcement in the front, is therefore more than welcome at the English superpower. Liverpool must make every effort to get at least a Champions League ticket. Klopp’s team won against Aston Villa on Boxing Day and is sixth in the Premier League.

PSV looking for a replacement

PSV already knew after the World Cup that Gakpo will probably leave and is preparing to recruit a replacement, the Eindhovens Dagblad recently reported. Jesper Karlsson from AZ is in the picture as a potential successor, but the asking price of twenty million euros is a considerable stumbling block for the time being. The name of Dynamo Kiev striker Viktor Tsygankov is also mentioned. The Ukrainian’s contract expires at the end of this season, making him a financially attractive option.
