There are big troubles in the Spanish paradise called the national football team. Real Madrid announced the signing of Spanish national team manager Julen Lopetegui as their new manager for next season. This announcement came as a surprise for everyone in the football community. Not in the least for the Spanish football association (RFEF). Real Madrid told the news to the Spanish association about fifteen minutes before the announcement in the press. This caused such a big shock that they needed to act which got Julen Lopetegui fired. Just two days before their first World Cup match against Portugal.
Why got Julen Lopetegui fired?
The RFEF just recently signed a new two-year deal with Lopetegui. They were convinced he was completely focussed on bringing new successes to the national team. The fact that he was negotiating with Real Madrid in the week for the World Cup isn’t very appreciated. Every country that goes to the World Cup needs a nice and quiet preparation. The fact that their manager puts his future before the interests of his team, is the reason Spain doesn’t want to go to the World Cup with Lopetegui as manager.
Real Madrid players
The status of Lopetegui automatically changed after this announcement. A big part of his squad plays for Barcelona and Real Madrid. Players from Barcelona will think he prefers to keep the Real Madrid players happy over the Barcelona players. This isn’t going to help the team. I really don’t understand why the announcement came just a few days before the World Cup. If both parties want to get this deal done, they should have wait until the end of the World Cup. It isn’t like he has the team to do things for Real Madrid in the next month anyway.
Who’s next?
At the moment it’s unknown who will lead Spain on the World Cup, more announcement are expected later today.
