This match is extremely important in the race for the title and promotion to the Eredivisie. Fortuna Sittard led the Jupiler League before this match, but they were only 2 points ahead of Jong Ajax and NEC. Jong Ajax can’t play in the Eredivisie, so the battle for promotion is between Fortuna and NEC. You can imagine the people at Fortuna weren’t too happy about this replay.

Jong Ajax started this match just like they did in the first match a few weeks ago. They dominated possession and forced NEC on their own half. It was Norwegian striker Dennis Johnsen who scored the well-deserved 1-0 for Jong Ajax.

NEC tried to do something back in the second half, but they were unable to create a lot. Jong Ajax wins the match with 1-0 and the only thing NEC gained from this rematch is that they conceded one goal less. I am very happy with this result, because it’s just fair in my honest opinion. Ajax deserved this result and Fortuna Sittard did too. I don’t know if Fortuna is really happy with this result. They lost the first place in the league, but they keep a 2 point lead in the battle for relegation.
