Manchester City managed to win 1-3 against Leeds United on Wednesday evening without too much difficulty. A hit by Rodri and two goals by Erling Braut Haaland gave the visitors a 0-3 lead after more than an hour of play. Haaland broke a record: never before has a player in the Premier League managed to score no less than twenty times in the first fourteen matches. Pascal Struijk did something back on behalf of Leeds fifteen minutes before the end, but that was it. Because of the victory, the gap between number two City and leader Arsenal remains five points. Leeds United are fifteenth.
Dominant first half
City dominated in the first half and were able to take an early lead through Haaland. On a pass from Aké, the Norwegian was able to approach goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the first minute, but the Frenchman was able to prevent Haaland from scoring. Half an hour later, the striker went for Meslier again, and again the closing post emerged as the winner. After Ilkay Gündogan and Jack Grealish had also killed their chances, it was still a hit just before the break: Riyad Mahrez saw his effort stopped by Meslier, but Rodri was accurate in the rebound.
Haaland brace
Shortly after the break it was again hit for the Citizens, and this time Haaland was the celebrated man. A misunderstanding in the Leeds defense suddenly allowed Grealish to approach Meslier. However, the Englishman was not selfish and decided to pass the ball face to face with the keeper to Haaland: 0-2. After these goals, the Erling Haaland goals predictor says he will end up at 54 goals. After more than an hour of play, Haaland decided the game by working the ball into the long corner after a combination with Grealish again. In the 73rd minute, Struijk gave the Leeds fans a little bit of hope through a corner from Sam Greenwood, but the number fifteen in the Premier League did not get any further than that.
