The UEFA stakeholders meeting has decided the Euro 2020 tournament will be moved to the summer of 2021. This all is the consequence of the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) that is currently stranglehold the world. All the major football leagues already stopped playing in the last couple of weeks and the uncertainty around this virus forced the UEFA to make this big decision.
Euro 2020 to 2021 most sensible decision by UEFA
For me and the Soccerage crew this decision by UEFA is the most sensible decision at this moment. All football leagues are paused and there is nobody who knows when we can resume playing football again. The fact that the UEFA moves the Euro 2020 tournament to the summer of next year, gives the national leagues a lot more time to finish things. People were suggesting the league should be voided to give Euro 2020 a chance. I absolutely don’t like this idea of leagues being voided. Liverpool is the best example, they haven’t won the title in 30 years, are 22 points clear of the number two.
Voiding the leagues would mean teams played 3/4rd of a football season for nothing. This doesn’t sound fair to me. The Premier League is the best example, where Liverpool is leading the league with a 25 points lead. You can’t just say: Sorry but this league is finished without a winner. The national football associations have got the time to finish their league is the right manner. Preferably with the fans of course, but even finishing without fans would be better than not finishing the leagues at all. It’s going to be very interesting to see how thing will develop in the next couple of months. But first everybody need to take their responsibility in our battle against Covid-19. Follow the government guidelines and stay at home!
