Championship Play-offs final: Fulham v Aston Villa

The Premier League is over and we know the three teams that go to the Championship. Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City all go back to the Championship. Wolverhampton Wanderers won the 2017-2018 Championship and will play in the Premier League next season. Cardiff City finished second and will take over Swansea’s place as Welsh side in the Premier League. The third promoted team is yet to be decided. The semi-finals of the Champions play-offs are played this week. Fulham and Aston Villa qualified for the Championship play-offs final. Read this post to find all the information about this final. Fulham versus Aston Villa is the dream tie for the Championship play-offs final. Fulham finished third in the regular season of the Championship, while Aston Villa finished fourth. So now we know the numbers 1 and 2, the numbers 3 and 4 play for the last spot in the 2018-2019 Premier League. Therefore this match is going to be an interesting one. This match will be played at Wembley on the 26th of May, which makes this match an idea pre-match for the Champions League final later that day.


The London team missed promotion to the Premier League on 2 points. Things looked to go wrong in the play-offs after losing the first match with 1-0 against Derby County. It was Ryan Sessengon, one of the biggest talents in English football, who tied the score in the second match. A goal by Dennis Odoi was enough for Fulham to win the second match with 2-0 and qualify for the final.

Aston Villa

The Villans bounced back from a tough first season in the Championship. They finished 13th in the 2016-2017 season, but reached the top four one season later. The gap to their opponents in the final was five points on the table. Aston Villa needed only one goal in the semi-finals to reach to the final. They won their first match with 0-1 away against Middlesbrough and drew 0-0 in the home match.
