Champions League group stage day 1
Group A
The two favourites of this group started with an away match. Atletico Madrid went to Monaco and conceded an early goal. Diego Costa and Jose Jimenez turned the game around before half-time by scoring a goal each. With the 1-2 score, they played their favourite style of play, by denying As Monaco from getting dangerous. The Spanish side won their first match with 1-2, giving them a great start in this group. Rivals Borussia Dortmund started with an away match against Club Brugge. The Belgium side was heading towards a draw, when a lucky goal from Pulisic fell behind Letica. The next round it’s Atletico versus Club Brugge and Dortmund versus As Monaco. Two home team wins, could lead to a duel between the favourites for the group win.
Group B
The big favourite in this group Fc Barcelona, took their time to seal the deal against PSV. But at the end of the match, after a hat-trick by Lionel Messi and a good goal by Ousmane Dembele, Barca took the three points with a 4-0 victory. Tottenham Hotspur took the lead in the other match in this group, away against Internazionale. But the Italian side changed everything in the last ten minutes of this match. Two goals from the Italians led to a 2-1 victory for the home team.
Group C
This group is one of the most interesting one in this season’s group stage. It started with the match between 2 teams that want to win this tournament. Liverpool entertained PSG at Anfield for the first match in this group. The Reds from Liverpool won this match with 3-2 by a injury time winner. After being 2-0 up PSG drew level in the second half, but Liverpool got what they deserved thanks to Roberto Firmino. In the other match, Napoli failed to get the three points of Red Star Belgrade, which gives the Italians the obligation to win the next match at home against Liverpool.
Group D
In Group D it was the Turkish side Galatarasay who had a great start of this group. An early goal by Garry Rodrigues boosted their confidence. Every victory is important in this group that’s wide open. Gala won this match with 3-0, giving them a perfect start heading towards the knock-out stages. In Gelsenkirchen, Schalke 04 and Porto drew 1-1.
