Gerónimo Rulli

Ajax tries to attract Gerónimo Rulli

Gerónimo Rulli is at the top of Ajax’s wish list, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday. The Dutch club wants to attract a goalkeeper in the winter break anyway and the Villarreal goalkeeper is the most serious option for the time being. Thirty-year-old Rulli, who has been stuck in Spain for another year and a half, won the world title with Argentina, even though he was not first choice under national coach Lionel Scaloni.

First contact made with Gerónimo Rulli

According to Romano, Ajax has already made the first contacts with the management of Rulli, one of the most important forces in the selection of Villarreal. The experienced goalkeeper has been playing for the current number nine in LaLiga since mid-2020. In his first season, Rulli immediately conquered the Europa League. In the final won against Manchester United, he played a heroic role in the penalty shootout by turning the effort of colleague David de Gea. As a result, Villarreal eventually won in a blood-curdling series 11-10.

Aging goalkeepers in Amsterdam

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder usually opts for Remko Pasveer this season, with Maarten Stekelenburg and Jay Gorter as back-up. It has been known for some time that Ajax is looking for a new goalkeeper. Het Parool recently reported that SC Heerenveen requires at least ten million euros for World Cup participant Andries Noppert. BILD revealed that Alexander Nübel is also on the list. Bayern Munich will rent him to AS Monaco this season. Currently no odds are available for any free bets on Rulli to Ajax.

David Raya

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya seems to be another option for Ajax, the team of transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports. Just like Rulli, Raya was in Qatar but never played a minute during the 2022 World Cup tournament. Raya is a starter for Brentford, so it will be the question if he’s willing to leave the Premier League for the Dutch Eredivisie.
