We all know women’s football isn’t at the level of mens football, but I have to say women’s football is in an upwards spiral. Ada Hegerberg is the Norwegian star of Olympique Lyonnais’ women’s team. She won the French Division 5 times and the Women’s Champions League four times. She got the record of most goals in one Women’s Champions League season with 15 goals. At the age of 24, she’s already the all-time topscorer in the UWCL. Ada Hegerberg is one of the biggest stars in female football. She’s the first player to win the Ballon d’Or Féminin in 2018. Unfortunately this achievement was overshadowed by DJ Martin Solveig. During the ceremony he asked her if she knows how to twerk.
Ada Hegerberg writes history once again
Nike announced a sponsorship agreement with Ada Hegerberg. This deal connects her to Nike for ten years, and she will earn a million Euro in that time. This makes Ada Hegerberg the first female football player who signs a sponsordeal of 1 million Euros. This deal gives her even more status. Hederberg is very happy with this deal. She told the media: “Nike and I want to develop women’s football even further in the next years. This is a new step in my career. I’m determined to write history on and off the pitch together with Nike.
Group of athletes
This deal brings Hegerberg is a select group of worldwide ambassadors of the brand Nike. She’s joined the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Not the worst list of people to belong to if you ask me. It’s going to be very interesting to see if other big sports brands follow Nike’s footsteps and start signing female football players on longterm sponsorship deals. Who’s going to be the next female football player to sign at a top brand? Let me know in the comments.
