United got an early lead when Cristiano Ronaldo managed to score from the penalty spot. But Liverpool responded with a flurry of goals to inflict a humiliating defeat to their rivals. Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena all contributed to make it a miserable match for United.

Liverpool ultimately lost the title to United but at least they registered an emphatic victory at Old Trafford.
